Investigative Threat Assessment Process (ITAP) – Certification Course

Investigative Threat Assessment Process (ITAP), our behavioral threat assessment and management model, teaches a fact-based, systematic process designed to IDENTIFY, INQUIRE, ASSESS, and MANAGE potentially dangerous or violent subjects. A key goal is to distinguish between an individual who MAKES a threat versus one who POSES a threat. Threat Assessment teams and programs are designed to address any behavior or communication that raises concern that a person or situation may pose a danger to the safety of the school, campus, or workplace.

The basic threat assessment course includes:

  • Threat typology
  • Understanding the motivation behind threats
  • Multi-pronged assessment model
  • Identifying behavior and personality traits that can lead to violent behavior
  • The multi-disciplinary team approach
  • Intervention process and threat management
  • Role of law enforcement
  • Case study review
  • Role-play and tabletop scenarios Performance

Objectives: By the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

    • Identify behavioral indicators a subject is on the pathway to violence.
    • Differentiate between affective and predatory behavior.
    • Understand the motivation behind threats.
    • Understand the threat assessment process.
    • Know how to perform and document a threat assessment interview.
    • Implement various management strategies.
