The Art of Screen Time Negotiation

A professionally facilitated evening workshop giving your school community’s parents practical, research-informed tools for reducing screen conflict at home — and building stronger family relationships.

WHY SCHOOLS ARE BOOKING THIS

The Conflict Is Real. The Solutions Exist.

Screen time battles are among the most common stressors families bring into schools. Students arriving dysregulated, distracted, or sleep-deprived after late-night device use is a pattern teachers and counselors see every day — but the root of the problem plays out at home.

This workshop gives parents the concrete communication skills to address it. Not by taking devices away or installing monitoring software — but by building the conversations and family agreements that actually hold over time.

The result is a calmer home dynamic that shows up in school: students who are better rested, less anxious, and less reactive.

WHAT’S COVERED

Workshop Overview

Three focused modules — each building on the last — developed around real conflict patterns in family screen time dynamics.

  • Session  1: Calm, Connection, and Being Heard
Parents learn to regulate their own reactions before responding to their child’s — the foundational skill everything else depends on.

Identifying personal triggers · The Tone Drop technique · The 5-Second Pause · Tactical listening · Curiosity-based conversation openers

  • Session 2: Empathy, Influence, and the Power of Choice
Parents shift from issuing commands to offering structured choices — reducing resistance without reducing expectations.

Empathy as a leadership tool · Validating without caving · The Rule of Two · Converting commands into choices · Inviting the child’s proposal

  • Session 3: Boundaries Without Battles & The Family Plan
Parents learn to hold firm boundaries under pushback — and guide their family in co-creating agreements that don’t require constant enforcement.

The 3-Step Objection Framework  ·  Building the Family Screen Agreement  ·  The “Reset Button” conversation  ·  Long-term relationship vision

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the workshop, and what does a typical evening look like?

The complete program are three 90-minute sessions, with structured activities woven throughout so it never feels like a lecture. We’re flexible and will work within your event schedule.

A room large enough for your expected audience, a projector and screen, and a microphone if the space is larger. We take care of the rest — including printed Parent Handbooks for every attendee, which are included in the workshop fee.

This workshop is best suited to parents of students in grades 4 through 12. The content is most relevant when children are old enough to have their own devices and the parent-child negotiation around screen time is already a regular occurrence.

Yes — and combining both amplifies the impact significantly. When students and parents are introduced to similar frameworks and language at the same time, household conversations shift. Many schools book a student assembly and a parent workshop in the same week. Ask about bundled scheduling when you reach out.

The workshop works well for audiences from 10 to 300+ parents. The format is designed to scale — activities are structured so everyone participates regardless of room size.

We recommend booking 4–8 weeks in advance to allow time for promotion within your school community. That said, we occasionally have openings for shorter lead times — reach out and we’ll let you know what’s available.

No — and this is intentional. Cyber Safety Cop’s philosophy is built on empowerment, not fear. The workshop does not use shocking statistics or scare tactics to motivate parents. Instead, it builds genuine communication skills that work long after the event is over.
