Be More Than a Bystander

Last week, I spoke to more than 1700 students at a local high school about cyberbullying and social media.

How can we make a difference? Don’t be a bystander.

  • Be more than a bystander – The bully needs the cooperation of his “audience.”
  • Stand up for others – If you can do it safely, show that you won’t tolerate bullying.
  • Be a friend – If you can’t intervene immediately, reach out to the victim later and help them resolve this issue.
  • Report bullying – Help them find a trusted adult to tell, or tell a trusted adult yourself.
